Entrapment

After experimenting with confining Chris, an idea struck me for my project. It came to me via this magazine I get on the way to university. The image of a bird cage appealed to me, we lock birds within cages all the time, they are constantly confined and suffocated within this small space.
It hit me. I want to make a human sized cage. A social cage, to trap my audience in.

I began making a mini test version of this so called cage, I made it out of scrap metal wire, using a bottle I bent the wire into circular shapes, then went ahead to bind the ends of the wire around the base of my model. I used wire cutters and a pair of pliers to do this. I found the mini sculpture effective, yet I question how difficult it would be to build a human sized structure, with out it caving in.

I had some concerns with the structural side of the cage, I went back to the drawing board. As much as The first designed appealed to me, I didn’t think the method of making it would sustain to a large scale.

Istarted drawing out different structures that I could potenially use.

I made some mini models.

I decided that a more classic shape would be ideal.I called it "The Cube".
This was because it was a neat and tidy shape, and the right size to trap Emily in, yet big enough to make a statement.

I aim to photograph Emily within it, as she will be ‘confined’, I then wish to add such materials like string and wool, to create a spider web effect, similar to the previous models.

My cube is made from 12 pieces of Straight Wood 20.5mm x 20.5mm – 1.0m, Then I have painted them Black, This is so it creates a crisp, clean and bold finish in my photographs.

After speaking to Ruth, I briefly looked into performance art.
I filmed the entire process of my cube experiment, and also experimented with a small performance piece.

After experimenting with this, I am goin to start thinking about how I could bring this into a public area.

social art?
Photography?
